RADENKO MILAK

Radenko Milak now lives and works in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Milak’s work—focused primarily on watercolor, painting, drawing, and animated film—draws from archival sources to examine the societal dynamics and physical transformations of cities shaped by modernization, conflict, and cultural influences. He graduated from the Art Academy of the University of Banja Luka in 2003 and later from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade in 2007. Over the course of his career, Milak has held more than 20 solo exhibitions across France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Colombia. He has also participated in major international events such as the 57th Venice Biennale, the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Mumbai, and Bienalsur in Buenos Aires. His work is included in the collections of the Albertina Museum (Vienna, Austria), Folkwang Museum (Essen, Germany), Kunstmuseum (Wolfsburg, Germany), and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska (Banja Luka and Sarajevo), among others. Drawing inspiration from dystopian worlds, Milak explores themes of societal alienation and transformation. His monochromatic palette heightens the sense of monotony, echoing the mechanical rhythm of modern life. The undulating structures feel alive—almost oppressive—reflecting the weight of technological dominance and urban sprawl.

Radenko Milak has been in residence in March 2026
